Fire danger near critical on Monday, with natural disasters and thunderstorms possible on Wednesday

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – Have a great Sunday evening, Texoma! A warm night is expected across the region with temperatures dropping to around 63 degrees, much better than last night when temperatures dipped into the 40s! Clear skies at night, but partly cloudy skies tomorrow. Temperatures will rise to 91 degrees tomorrow, setting a record high.

Tomorrow the fire weather is expected to be close to critical. Winds will be out of the south at 15 to 25 mph, with afternoon gusts reaching near 40. Relative humidity will drop to about 25 percent, leading to very dry conditions in Texoma. A Red Flag Warning has been issued for several Texoma counties.

Tuesday appears to be seeing similar but slightly improved fire weather conditions, largely due to more moisture returning to the area. Relative humidity readings appear to be around 45-50 percent, a significant improvement from Monday. However, on Tuesday wind gusts are likely to reach 45 mph and possibly higher.

Help looks set to arrive Wednesday, with a chance of rain. It’s possible that there could be some built-in thunderstorms, some of which could be strong to severe along the cold front. We’ll keep you posted.

Have a wonderful Sunday, Texoma!
