Arne Slot welcomed Bukayo Saka‘outstanding’ performance in Arsenaldraw 2-2 with Liverpool on Sunday.

Saka scored Arsenal’s first goal at the Emirates Stadium by controlling Ben White’s excellent long pass before turning over Andy Robertson and firing past Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

Virgil van Dijk put Liverpool level in the first half but Arsenal took the lead again thanks to Mikel Merino’s breakthrough.

Liverpool showed signs of improvement in the second half and equalized through Mohamed Salah to earn a point at Emirates Stadium.

Speaking after the game, Slot praised Arsenal’s ability to constantly “surprise” their opponents with different systems and admitted that Liverpool found it difficult to deal with Saka.

“I think our intensity was on a different level in the second half, but the first half was very difficult for us,” Slote told NBC Sports.

“Can they surprise you? In fact, they can because they can play in so many different formations and formations that you always have to wonder what they’ll come up with.

“They were now playing as a false number nine and their midfielders were very wide, so I didn’t feel like we were in complete control in the first half.

“I was very pleased that we scored the set-piece here. The downside was that we conceded one goal, but I think Arsenal deserved to be 2-1 at half-time.”

When it was suggested that both Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were forced back in the first half by the Arsenal wingers, Slott responded: “Yes, the first goal was an example of that when you saw the quality of Saka.

“Maybe we should have done better but sometimes you have to give credit to those special strikers who play these games and I thought Saka, especially in the first half, had an outstanding game.”

“Then we lost 2-1, although I didn’t think they had that many other options, but in the first half they were a much better team.”

“Then I wouldn’t say it surprised me because I know these players, but I have one day less recovery time than Arsenal, who played an away game (in the Champions League on Wednesday) and turned up the second half is coming. we did it with the intensity we played with and it was really nice to see.”
