She is a sister to Champion Stakes winner Cracksman and comes from a yard that has her in 2022 alongside the next Oaks hero, Soul Sister.

Calico hit form in the second half of last season but has been injury-free and will be ready for this competition having finished second at Cheltenham for the first time in the last two seasons. Had he not pressed so early he could have won last year’s Paddy Power meeting and was beaten by Triple Trade; He’s 6lb worse off here and his best form is good, so conditions should be perfect.

Harry’s tip: Harper’s Ferry

Harper’s Ferry was very keen on his handicap debut at Doncaster last month but very few entered that race and I’m prepared to give him another chance. He performed very promisingly on his one-year-old start, finishing second over a mile, five lengths behind the current 116-rated Almaqam in fourth place, and hit the target by 1m2f at his third attempt at Windsor in April. He won with some remaining money that day and his form looks good; the second and sixth are currently in the low 90s, while the third has since gained ground. Soft ground could be a bonus, there could also be a drop to a mile and not getting a better score than 93 would be disappointing.

Gale Mahler will be a short price but deserves it given that despite being rated 8lb higher than his nearest rival he has gained weight across the board and his form couldn’t be better. Her victory at Uttoxeter in June was received as a huge compliment as the second Flying Fortune started the Persian War by more than two lengths and when last seen in July her winning a Listed race by ten lengths was hugely impressive. the fourth has since gained Grade 3. He’s the one they all need to beat.

0009’s recent form figures don’t inspire huge confidence, but Magical Spirit is now just 1lb clear of her track and distance win in April and a return here has a chance of triggering a resurgence. He recorded his first three RPRs over course and distance on soft ground, including a second-place finish in a listed event, and his good record here includes victory in this race in 2021.

I was really impressed with how Strictlyadancer survived the veterans’ chase when he reappeared at Chepstow a fortnight ago, and although he was ultimately well beaten after his effort was called for, he needed and earned his first run of the season. come on for this. He used this contest as a stepping stone to finish fourth last year and the course and distance winner should be a big hitter this time with a 2lb lower score (9lb taking into account the jockey’s claim).
