Costco Recalls Kirkland Brand Smoked Salmon Due to Listeria Risk: What You Need to Know

One type of smoked salmon sold at Costco is being recalled due to problems with listeria.

Acme Smoked Fish Corp., the company that supplies Costco smoked salmon under the warehouse store’s Kirkland Signature brand, announced a voluntary recall some packages of smoked salmon this week.

In an Oct. 22 letter to Costco members, Acme Smoked Fish said it was recalling the products “out of an abundance of caution” due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Listeria bacteria can cause listeriosis infection, the symptoms of which may include fever, chills, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.

According to the WHO, listeriosis is often not dangerous for people with healthy immune systems, but can be dangerous or life-threatening for pregnant women, people over 65, or people with weakened immune systems. Cleveland Clinic.

The Costco Smoked Salmon recall only affects packages of Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon with lot number 8512801270. The lot number can be found on the front of the package above the expiration date.

Acme Smoked Fish states that customers who purchased smoked salmon with the lot number listed above should not consume the product and should return it to Costco for a refund.

The company also advised consumers to call Acme Smoked Fish at 718-383-8585 with any questions or concerns.

This recall comes shortly after Costco recalled some chicken products due to listeria concerns. These reviews were part of a wider recall of ready-to-eat poultry this affected some products sold in stores across the country, including Aldi, Walmart, Target, Giant Eagle, HEB, Trader Joe’s and Kroger.
