Judge warns Cork man accused of intimidating his wife to ‘keep his mouth shut’

Two nights in jail were a wake-up call for a man accused of intimidating his wife, and now a judge has released him with a warning not to write or say anything that upsets his wife: “Don’t hit send and keep your mouth shut.” castle.”

The accused was remanded in custody for two days on charges of twice breaching an order under the Domestic Violence Act.

What was originally a temporary restraining order has now become a security order that says he can return home but cannot intimidate his wife. She said she never wanted him to go to jail, but wanted him to get his drinking problem under control.

“If he decides to go home, if he does anything to intimidate the other person, he will be breaking the rules. Everything should work out. You’ll have to keep your mouth shut. Be kind and considerate. Remember the day your children were born. You wouldn’t want it to be like that,” the judge said.

The defendant and his wife cannot be named because the domestic proceedings were held behind closed doors.

He said: “It breaks my heart. It was a wake-up call.” His lawyer Dáithi Ó Donnabháin told the judge: “You can see he is a balanced man.”

Judge Dorgan adjourned the case until January 30 and called for things to calm down in the house.

The accused allegedly violated the order by asking his wife if she would talk to him when he met her on the street. And he allegedly violated it a second time by staying outside the house for 30 minutes, checking a bag of clothes left for him when no one was home.

The woman recently applied for an order under the Domestic Violence Act. She said she didn’t want him to go to jail but that he needed to get his drinking under control as his verbal abuse was getting worse.

Both sides are about 40 years old.
