Are you a woman, a non-binary practitioner, or exploring gender and architecture? Enter the W Awards 2025 now

There are currently three categories open for both practitioners and researchers: entry is free, and the deadline is November 24th.

The W Awards, formerly known as Women in Architecture, recognizes exemplary work by women and non-binary people, and in the fields of gender and architecture.

Three categories of W Awards are open for participation:

– Moira Gemmill Prize for New Architecture, open to practicing leaders from around the world under the age of 45.
– MJ Long Prize for Excellence in Practice, awarded to British designers who have worked in practice on a recent building for which they were the project architect.
– an award for research projects exploring the spatial implications of gender and sexuality.

Participation is free, you can nominate yourself or someone else. Find out more about various prizes and selection criteria.

The profession needs fresh thinking and new role models, and we look forward to receiving your applications. The shortlisted practitioners will appear in the March 2025 issue of AR.

The renaming of the awards in 2020, along with the associated W program, reflects the evolution of how we think about identity, how we understand our gender structures and categorization systems, and the many intersectional issues facing marginalized groups. With this small change, we hope to make room for multiple personalities and difficult conversations.

We constantly reconsider and challenge our ideas and ways of advocating for justice. We are not only changing, but also developing an old tradition: W reflects our pedigree and 10 years of work that we strive to continue, but is also open to the future. What remains of paramount importance is the celebration of exceptional design by people who are systematically undervalued by the society in which we live. We need role models for every young architect. Find out more about the W Awards and all past winners here.
