Judith Light says her nearly 40-year long-distance marriage is working because of one thing.

Judith Light and her husband Robert Desiderio, 39, know the secret to a long-lasting marriage: distance.

In a new interview with the magazine People magazine, an experienced actress who is currently starring in a new Apple TV+ supernatural drama Before — spoke about her relationship with the retired actor and explained why living on opposite ends of the country strengthens their bond.

“We talk every day. We FaceTime every day,” she said. “He likes to be alone and I like to be alone. Both of us I love time spent alone. We have it. It’s also very creative for us.”

“We also make sure that when we have something going on that upsets either of us, we both stay in the room and keep talking,” she added. “Sometimes we need to take a break. We say, “Wait, we need to stop now. We need to stop now and then we’ll get back to it.”

The duo first met while filming the film “One life to live” in the ’80s before tying the knot in 1985.

Desiderio, who has appeared in various television and film projects over the years, published his first novel, The Happening, in February 2020.

“He calls himself a recovering actor,” Light said of Desiderio’s retirement from acting. “He’s much happier now than he was.”

“(It) makes our marriage and our relationship so much happier.” she added.

As for relationship advice? Light said life is unpredictable, so it’s best to roll with the punches.

“You don’t know what life is going to bring you, and you don’t know how you’re going to grow from something, how you’re going to expand your world, how you’re going to meet people who are going to transform you and transform your world,” she said.

Light isn’t the only celebrity to speak out about her unconventional approach to marriage.

In an interview with Entertainment tonight earlier this year, Bette Midler opened up about her nearly 40-year marriage to husband Martin von Haselberg and explained why the duo never slept in the same bedroom.
