Cole Caufield stays hot as Montreal Canadiens beat St. Louis Blues

MONTREAL — Cole Cofield continued its hot start to the season and Kirby Duch scored for the first time in almost a year and a half Montreal Canadiens win St. Louis Blues 5-2 on Saturday night.

Montreal jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Jake Evans and Dach before the Blues fought back to level the score on goals Colton Parayko And Jake Nabors.

Alex Newhook and Caufield’s goals at the end of the second and beginning of the third period allowed the Canadiens to take control of the situation and Joel Army added another into an empty net to put the game out of reach.

Canadiens: Special teams has long been a sore spot for Montreal, but they’ve begun to show signs of changing this season. Thanks to a power play goal and a perfect penalty kill, both teams once again contributed to the victory.

Blues: Aside from a great response to Montreal’s second goal, St. Louis’ presence in the offensive zone was largely forgotten. They managed to outplay the Canadiens, but failed to create any real danger for most of the game.

With a two-goal lead and eight minutes left in the game, the Canadiens faced a critical shorthanded situation. They not only saved the penalty, but also managed to create their own scoring threats.

Kirby Dash scored his first goal since March 23, 2023, after missing the entire 2023-24 season with a torn ACL.
