Western country carnival is becoming more popular, the club says

Carnivals in the west of the country are annual celebrations, usually held on Bonfire Night, that date back to the Gunpowder Plot of 1605.

Carnival clubs across the region spend the entire year making parade floats, some of which are intricately designed and cost thousands of pounds to make.

Bridgwater celebrates Britain’s oldest carnival, which is also one of the largest illuminated parades in Europe.

Organizers estimate that Bridgwater alone will generate around £4 million for the local economy.

“It makes the city very vibrant,” said Paul Savage, the carnival’s emcee.

“I was born and raised here myself and there are a lot of families here who have been involved in the carnival for several years and all their children and their children are involved in it,” he added.

Carnival processions begin in September and continue until Bonfire Night on November 5th.
