Google’s Project Jarvis could be the biggest update to Chrome in 15 years – using artificial intelligence to visit websites, fill out forms, and make purchases for you.

Google is rumored to be releasing a new version of its powerful Gemini artificial intelligence model later this year, and Project Jarvis will be part of it. It’s standalone AI agent built into Chrome that can perform various web tasks on your behalf.

According to InformationProject Jarvis will be able to independently visit different websites, fill out forms, and even make purchases – with your instructions, of course. Overall, this might be the biggest update yet. Chromium since its launch in 2008.

It’s like Claude using a computera beta product introduced by Anthropic last week that allows Claude to monitor your machine by constantly updating screenshots. It uses them to determine where to “click” and perform tasks.

However, unlike Claude’s broader access to the computer, Project Jarvis is specifically limited to the Chrome browser and focuses on consumer tasks such as shopping and travel booking, with sources saying the system currently requires a few seconds between each action.

Named after Tony Stark’s AI assistant in Iron Man, Google’s Project Jarvis will take care of most of your day-to-day web tasks. Essentially, you will be able to tell a Gemini, “I have $500, find me a vacation for these dates, book it and just tell me the details,” and it will come true.

Its goal is to automate everyday web tasks in Chrome. Jarvis takes control of the browser, takes screenshots of what’s happening on the screen, and then uses AI Vision to determine where to click and what to type.

I just hope Jarvis finds a way to fund my bank account before spending any money.

Jarvis won’t have control over your entire computer like Claude, but it works in a similar way. A future version could give you control of your computer if ChromeOS arrives in the future, although the white paper doesn’t mention that possibility.

According to a report by The Information, it will release in December along with Google’s next big Gemini release, which will most likely be called Gemini 2. This will most likely happen on December 6, a year after Google released Gemini 1, although it may it won’t work out. mass production until 2025.

It’s also unclear if Jarvis will be available to everyone or if it will be a developer preview similar to Anthropic’s Claude Computer Use. If widely available, it may be limited to Gemini Advanced subscribers or as a consent preview due to a rumored “several seconds of latency” in each task.

Jarvis, Computer Use and OpenAIProject Swarm are all examples of “AI Agents”, the next big development in the AI race. Essentially, they automate everyday tasks, allowing you to simply ask the AI to do something and know that it can handle it.
