Jameis Winston had a strong performance for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, throwing for 334 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in his team’s stunning 29-24 upset win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Winston, who stepped into the starting role following Deshaun Watson’s season-ending Achilles injury, quoted a “white boy from Detroit named Eminem” in his postgame comments, rattling off the famous lyrics from the song “Lose Yourself” to describe the victory:

Even before Watson’s injury, some fans and experts believed the Browns should have turned to Winston as their starter given the incumbent’s abysmal play. Winston, who was the de facto third-string quarterback last week, also expressed confidence that he is still a capable starter.

“I see this as an opportunity to go out on the field and perform at my best,” he told reporters within a week. “And when I’m at my best, I’m a great starter in the NFL.”

At least Winston looked the part on Sunday, and all the people calling for Watson to be demoted and Winston promoted earlier in the season looked pretty smart.

In Cleveland’s first seven games, Watson threw for 1,148 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions while recording a whopping 33 sacks. On Sunday, Winston gained more than a third of that yardage, more than half of all touchdowns, and was sacked only twice.

Jameis Winston played better today than Deshaun Watson has played in any game since he’s been with the Browns. Joe Flacco came out last year and had several games better than any game Watson played with the Browns.

More importantly, he avoided the biggest kryptonite of his career: turnover.

“I thought he played well,” head coach Kevin Stefanski. told reporters after the game. “I thought the defense was excellent all day. I thought the guys really pulled it off. And I thought he nailed his readings and the guys opened up. He made the right decisions. It wasn’t perfect, he’s not going to Play perfect, I’m not going to coach perfect, but I thought he played well.”

It was as if Winston found out he was going to start and said to himself, “Now this looks like a job for me. So that’s it, just follow me.”

And the result was dubbing.
