Three people were killed and a child was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash that left one car completely on fire near Woodstock Sunday afternoon.

Woodstock Fire and Rescue District and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 12:02 a.m. Sunday to the 13400 block of Davis Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a report of a multi-vehicle entrapment collision.

Woodstock Fire Rescue District Public Information Officer Alex Wucha said firefighters arrived within four minutes to find a serious crash with one vehicle fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters deployed a hose line to contain the vehicle fire, which had begun to spread into a nearby wooded area, Vooch said.

Additional fire crews were trying to free the child from a silver Volvo SUV that was stuck when it crashed.

Vucha said the seriously injured child was taken by ambulance to the helipad at Northwestern Medical Hospital in Woodstock.

A LifeNet medical helicopter landed and transported the child to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

The two victims were found inside a black two-door Dodge Challenger after the fire was extinguished, Vooch said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the silver Volvo SUV also died on the spot.

A third vehicle, a Jeep, was hit by debris during the collision.

Wucha said the driver and young passenger of the jeep were not injured and did not require medical attention.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office closed Davis Road between Steeg Road and Dean Street to investigate the crash.

The roadway remained closed from midday until evening. Deputies opened the roadway around 8 p.m.

The McHenry County Coroner’s Office is now planning to conduct autopsies on the three victims, whose identities have not been released.

The sheriff’s office has not yet released information about the incident or what may have caused it.
