Aishwarya’s absence from Amitabh Bachchan’s birthday video, her solo appearances at events and Abhishek’s rumored affair with Nimrat Kaur are fueling reports of divorce. Amid the buzz, an old interview of Aishwarya Rai has resurfaced in which she shares the story of how she and Abhishek got married.

Aishwarya and Abhishek got married on April 20, 2007, which attracted the most attention from the media. However, few people know the history of the couple’s “Roka” ceremony. In a throwback interview, Aishwarya opened up about how her Roka ceremony took place without her father. She said: “I didn’t even know there was something called Roca.” We are South Indians, so I don’t know what Roka is, and suddenly we got a call from their house – we are coming.”

In the episode Famous movie Fare, season 2, Aishwarya Rai shared the story of how a surprise roka ceremony took place between her and Abhishek Bachchan right after his proposal in the absence of her father. She further said, “Abhishek said, we will all come and I can’t stop my father. We’re on our way. We are going to your home. I thought: my God, what is happening! My father is not there. He’s not in town.”

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan’s engagement came as a surprise, especially since Aishwarya’s father, Krishnaraj Rai, was out of town at the time. Both parents are usually present at such important ceremonies, but Krishnaraj had to participate by telephone. Reflecting on the events, Aishwarya shared, “My father was not there, so we had to make arrangements with him over the phone.” Her mother Brinda Rai was also stunned by how quickly everything unfolded.

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have been married for 17 years. They have a common daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan. Earlier this year, rumors of a possible breakup started doing the rounds when Aishwarya attended Anant Ambani’s wedding alone with Aaradhya. They later attended the SIIMA Awards in Dubai, which reignited the rumors.
