Arsenal v Liverpool: Premier League – BBC Sport

Arsenal were up against a much improved Liverpool in the second half, although they were hampered by a depleted defense, but the home side will be disappointed they were unable to complete what could have been a big win.

The Gunners could hardly afford another defeat after their miss at Bournemouth, such was the fine margin in the title race, and they fully deserved to lead at the interval after an excellent first 45 minutes.

Saka’s return gave Robertson a torrid time, especially when he scored the opening goal, and Arsenal did nothing more than deserve it when Merino dived forward to Rice’s teasing set-piece to restore the lead after Van Dijk’s equalizer.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was forced to make changes following the departures of Gabriel, who clutched an ice pack to his thigh on the bench, and Timber, who had just returned from injury. As a result, the pressure mounted on their defenders before Liverpool pulled away and Salah scored.

Arsenal will be disappointed with just a point at home, but the questions that were raised about the character of this team after the defeat to Bournemouth were answered here again as they showed real spirit and resilience as Liverpool sniffed out victory in the final minutes .

The worry for Arteta now is that he could face losing Gabriel and Timber in the upcoming games and will be desperately hoping that both of them only have minor problems.
