Timothée Chalamet crashed a double event in New York

Timothée Chalamet stunned fans with his unexpected appearance at the actor’s look-alike competition.

The Wonka star crashed an event in New York, drawing a chorus of screaming fans.

Chalamet was spotted posing for photos with his curly-haired counterparts during a brief appearance in Washington Square Park.

City police stopped the crowded event, which attracted hundreds of people, calling it “unscheduled.”

Variety reported that Chalamet made his way through the crowd, hiding behind a mask and baseball cap, and then snuck up on two lookalikes as they posed for photos, causing screams throughout the park.

The competition, organized by YouTuber Anthony Poe, promised a $50 (£39) prize to the winner and attracted thousands to respond to online invitations.

A fan of the actor of the films “Call Me by Your Name” and “Dune” Lauren Klas told what makes a good Chalamet different. “It’s all about the nose,” he told the AP news agency.

“His entire bone structure, in fact.”

Participants were also asked about their knowledge of French, plans to make the world a better place and romantic intentions with Kylie Jenner, whom the star is rumored to be dating, AP reports.

In the end, 21-year-old Miles Mitchell from Staten Island was crowned the winner, dressed in a Willy Wonka costume before tossing candy from a briefcase to the crowd.

Some participants reported that the event was closed by police.

In a statement to the BBC, the New York City Police Department said it responded to an “unplanned demonstration in Washington Square Park” on Sunday.

It added that the people were taken into custody and later released on summonses.

Earlier this month, a new trailer for Total Unknown was released, in which the star portrays Bob Dylan.

The biopic is set in the 1960s and chronicles Dylan’s rise to the top of the charts.

The film will be released in December in the US and January in the UK.
