Celebrating Taylor Swift at Penn State Berks

Penn State Berks will host a free public event, “Eras Tour (Penn State Berks Version),” on Saturday, November 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Perkins Plaza on the Spring Township campus.

Admission is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required at: berks.psu.edu/public-events-calendar/special-events/eras-tour.

Students from the college’s Taylor Swift, Gender and Communication course will take guests through an interactive tour of each era/album of Swift’s career. There will be a photo booth as well as games and activities. The Stephanie Grace Band will perform Swift’s hits at noon.

Fundraising gala

Opportunity House will host a fundraising gala on November 14th from 6:30-11:00 pm at Reading Area Community College’s Miller Center for the Arts.

The event will celebrate the organization’s 40th anniversary and how many lives the shelter has changed.

Entertainment will be provided by the Craig Thatcher Trio. Tickets are $250 per person and available at: e.givesmart.com/events/DxX/.

Agriculture job fair

The Berks County Department of Agriculture is hosting an Agriculture and Natural Resources Job Fair on Thursday, November 14th from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Leesport Farmers Market in Ontelawnee Township.

Only 10% of people working in agriculture are farmers. The rest work in supporting fields such as biotechnology, robotics, engineering and mechanics, business management, economics and finance, education and research, forestry, lumber and wood products, agronomy, animal husbandry, entomology, veterinary medicine, food manufacturing and packaging, landscape design. and conservation and natural resources.

Exhibitors from business, government agencies and universities will attend the event to discuss career opportunities.

Boone’s birthday

The Daniel Boone Homestead will celebrate its namesake’s 290th birthday on Sunday, November 3rd from noon to 4:00 pm at the Exeter Township site.

Guest speaker will be Boone biographer Robert Morgan, who will appear at 2 p.m. and will sign books after his talk. There will be a birthday party with colonial toys and games, crafts and birthday cake. Tours of the Boone House will be available in the afternoon, and other historic buildings on the property will be open.

Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for those 65 and older, $5 for children ages 6 to 17, and free for children under 5 and members of Daniel Boone Homestead Associates.

Open Door History

The Leesport Historical Society Open House is scheduled for Sunday, November 3rd from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at 128 Main St. Visit the 1858 schoolhouse that served the community until 1961. See original school items as well as local and regional artifacts, including a Quaker marriage from the 1750s. Certificate.

Crafts Festival

The Reading-Berks Crafts Guild has scheduled its 74th annual juried holiday Fine Arts and Crafts Festival for Saturday, November 2nd from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday, November 3rd from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at Michael O’ Hall. Pake Field House at Kutztown University. The event will feature works created by more than 70 artists from Pennsylvania and beyond.

The first 50 visitors on Saturday will receive a gift. Admission is $6; free for children under 12 years old. KU students and employees are admitted free of charge. Find out more at Rbcrafts.org.

Apple dumplings

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, Fleetwood Grange, 2864 Moselem Springs Road, is selling apple dumplings for $4.50 each. Pickup is available at the Grange from 12:30 to 17:30. Orders must be made in advance by calling 484-793-2860. Order deadline is Friday, November 1st.

turkey dinner

The turkey dinner will be held on Saturday, November 2nd from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 1979 Weavertown Road, Amityville. Dinner is served buffet style and includes turkey, stuffing potatoes, green beans, corn, pepper slaw, cranberry sauce, meatloaf and butter. Turkey soup, coffee and pie will be served.

Meals are $15 for adults, $8 for children 12 and under, and free for children 4 and under. Dinner to go is available for $15. For more information, call 610-689-9364.

Farmer program

On Saturday, November 2, from 2:30 to 5 p.m., the Dreibelbis Farm Historical Society will host a family-oriented fall program on the property near Virginville.

There will be non-scary hay rides, a bonfire, free hot dogs and snacks, pumpkin decorating, apple cider pressing and face painting. The Kutztown University Drama Team will be reading stories for the whole family.

There is a $5 donation to enter the farm (children under 3 are free). The donation covers all activities and drinks; Parking on site is free. If the weather forecast calls for rain, this will force organizers to cancel the event.

Turkey Trot

The ninth annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 28, at Boyertown Community Park, 417 S. Madison St. The event includes a 5K run and a 1-mile fun run/walk. The event is hosted by the Boyertown Health Council.

Awards will be given to the top men and women overall, the top three across age categories in the 5K, the largest family and the person who has ridden the farthest, as well as plenty of giveaways for everyone who registers in advance. Prizes include gift baskets and gift certificates.

Registration for the 5K is $30 for adults, $20 for children 12 and under through October 31st. After October 31, the price will increase to $35, including race day. The fun run/walk fee is $25 and $20 for children 12 and under. The 5K race fee is $35 after October 31st, including race day. Register for www.boyertownareamulti-service.org. Theology with a twist

On Theology with a Twist on November 5, the Rev. Becky Sausser presents “Nasty Bible Passages: The Passages We Love to Ignore.” The program will take place at 7:00 pm at the Kutztown Tavern, 272 W. Main St. This presentation is not intended for children.

Sausser, lead pastor of St. John’s UCC in Allentown, will talk about how the biblical text is caught in the crossfire amid discussions about book banning.

Theology with a twist is found in the upper room of the tavern. The event is free, but food and drinks can be purchased from the restaurant downstairs and brought into the event space. Parking is available in the public lot behind the Tavern or on Main Street. Everyone is welcome.
