Fire captain rescues kitten after trailer fire in Wofford Heights

A kitten was found and rescued after a fully engulfed trailer fire in Wofford Heights over the weekend.

The Kern County Fire Department said firefighters were called on Oct. 26 to a report of a trailer fully engulfed in flames in Wofford Heights.

KCFD said KCFD 7th Battalion firefighters from Engines 76, 72, 71 and 79 responded to the scene.

All crews managed to ensure the safety of all nearby buildings.

KCFD said once most of the smoke and heat had cleared, crews began a rescue and overhaul when a kitten emerged from the wreckage.

The department said the kitten was very skinny and suffered from smoke damage.

Engine 72 Captain Hayes noticed this immediately. The kitten was in his pocket while the captain continued to work.
