Aunt Louise’s Monticello Farm recovers from hurricane damage in time for fall celebrations

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – With the fall season comes pumpkin patches and corn mazes found at a family farm in Monticello.

Farm owner Louise Jones said she grew up on a farm. The property belonged to her father before he gave it to her. Jones said her husband and five sons now work on the farm, growing their own food and hosting fun fall festivals for local residents.

“I’m so grateful that I was able to keep the property and retain ownership of it. Now we can invite everyone, so that’s great,” Jones said.

According to the farm owner, people should support local farms. The community has shown support this season, helping the Jones family clean up after Hurricane Helen damaged part of the property.

It was a challenge the family had to face a week before opening day. One of the animals’ largest structures was damaged during the hurricane. One goat was killed and a sheep was injured, Jones said.

“There are a lot of emotions, but then a lot of gratitude that we are okay. My whole family is fine. We were able to restore order. Friends and family came to our aid and helped us get everything cleaned up and ready,” Jones said.

They managed to prepare everything for the entertainment of the community. The farm features a pumpkin patch, corn maze, pony rides, games and more.

The farm will be open until November 17 on Saturdays from 10:00 to 18:00 and on Sundays from 14:00 to 18:00.
