Cats rescued from flooded North Carolina shelters headed to Gonzales; donations needed

GONZALEZ, LA (WAFB) – A rescue alliance is asking for help as it prepares to take in 17 cats rescued from flood-damaged North Carolina shelters.

Flash flooding from a dam failure on Lake Lure in Hendersonville, North Carolina, displaced cats and put them in immediate danger as rising water inundated shelters in the area, according to the Rescue Alliance.

Seventeen of these cats are being rushed to Rescue Alliance in Gonzales where they will receive the medical care, shelter and support they need upon arrival. Animal rescues will need help providing these animals with everything they need to recover, including food, clumping litter, and foster homes.

“Our team is ready to welcome these animals and ensure they are safe and cared for during this difficult time,” said Jonathan Enrique, director of Rescue Alliance. “This emergency transport would not have been possible without the coordinated efforts of shelters and rescues across the region, and we are deeply grateful.”
