Shape the future of visual and material culture at the Cranbrook Academy of the Arts – colossal

Cranbrook Academy of the Arts is a vibrant community of architects, artists and designers working together to shape the future of visual and material culture. Recognized as one of the top graduate programs in architecture, design, and fine arts in the United States, Cranbrook is a destination for students looking to leave their MFA program ready to enter the industry or immediately open their own studio practice.

In Cranbrook, we strive to make graduate school accessible to everyone. During the current academic year, approximately 97 percent of the academy’s students received gift funding.

Each year we offer up to 10 full-tuition Gilbert Scholarships to students from diverse backgrounds and over 50 merit scholarships based on submitted application materials. We also help students access opportunities such as residency programs and design studio fellowships.

Our approach is based on the belief that extraordinary things can happen when people are given the time and space to explore their work in a supportive and inclusive community. In Cranbrook, each of our 11 departments is led by an artist-in-residence whose studio practice helps shape the direction of the program. There are no regular classes at the academy, and instead of a fixed curriculum, we focus on the issues of those who choose to study here.

The academy’s community includes up to 150 graduate students working in 11 disciplines: architecture, ceramics, fiber arts, graphic design, industrial design, interactive design, blacksmithing, painting, photography, print media, and sculpture.

Find out more about our programs on our Open day November 9th.. If you can’t come, please join us at upcoming webinar or schedule a portfolio review. There is simply no other school, no other place like this.
