Jonathan Kuminga could catch the eye of an Eastern Conference team

Jonathan Kuminga is headed to restricted free agency. They Golden State Warriors The front office was unable to reach an agreement before the Oct. 21 rookie extension deadline. As such, Kuminga will now be focused on signing a bigger contract in the summer. Warriors still retains his rights so they can match any offer sheet he signs with another team if they choose to do so.

According to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, the Brooklyn Nets are one to watch. They are reportedly planning an upgrade for the 2025 off-season and could be looking at Kuminga as a potential building block for the future.

“There were already rumors that Brooklyn was ready to throw a big offer at Jonathan Kuminga, I heard (New Orleans Pelicans forward) Trey Murphy before he got locked up.” Fischer said this during a recent live broadcast.

Brooklyn will likely have to make a big offer to Kuminga. That should be enough to make the Warriors feel comfortable matching it, as it would be the only way for Brooklyn to pry him out of the Bay Area. Kuminga has had a breakout season in the Warriors’ 2023-24 campaign and could potentially emerge as an All-Star candidate in the coming months.

Kuminga has struggled to start the 2024-25 season, partly due to him starting in a new small forward role next to Draymond Green and Trayce Jackson-Davis. The lack of space limits his ability to break through lanes and rely on his explosiveness. However, if he can figure out his new position, it’s unlikely the Warriors would consider leaving him next summer, regardless of the price.
