Denver Zoo’s ‘Halloween Crab’ Found at Denver Airport

A stowaway crab that flew from Costa Rica to Denver has found a new home at the Denver Zoo, zoo officials said.

The Halloween crab, also known as the moon crab or black-backed land crab, was found in the main cabin of a flight from Costa Rica when it landed at Denver International Airport earlier this year, according to a report Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance.

Halloween crabs are named for their unique coloring, which resembles a jack-o’-lantern and can range in size from 2 to 4 inches.

The crab, which the zoo has not named, took part in the Animal Ambassador display at the zoo’s Gates Amphitheater last week and will remain there until the end of the month, zoo officials said.

After October he will move to his permanent home in Tropical discovery is an indoor exhibit housing nearly 1,800 reptiles, amphibians, fish and crustaceans.
