Preparations are in full swing as Kamala Harris’ rally outside the White House on Tuesday is expected to draw thousands of people

Preparations are underway for a rally in front of the White House in Ellipse Park, where Vice President Kamala Harris will make her campaign’s closing argument.

Tuesday night’s rally is expected to draw about 20,000 people, with a planned spillover stretching to the Washington Monument, according to event permits.

The permit allowed installation to begin on Saturday.

As of Monday, fencing surrounds the area along the National Mall, blocking several tents, bleachers and numerous restrooms.

This security event will involve multiple agencies, including the U.S. Park Police and the Secret Service.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), who told 7News they are not the primary agency, sent the following statement: “The Metropolitan Police Department works closely with our local, state and federal partners. As with all events in the County, our priority is to ensure the safety of County residents and visitors.”

MPD issued a traffic alert Monday afternoon saying there will be several parking restrictions in place starting Tuesday morning, as well as numerous road closures starting at noon.

Metropolitan Police Department and The DC Department of Transportation has issued the following traffic advisories.

George Washington University political management professor Matt Dallek said security was expected to be tight.

“Given in particular the two assassination attempts on former President Donald Trump in recent months, the stakes for the Secret Service are extremely high, and it is clear that the Secret Service is under enormous pressure and scrutiny,” Dallek said.
