ReSources Vail Food Bank Unveils New Food Storage Building

Vail Food Bank Resources The grand opening of the new food storage building took place! To celebrate, they invited participants to “Stock the Pantry” with canned goods and other non-perishable items.

Vail Food Bank Resources is one of two social service providers for low-income families in southeastern Pima County, so additional food storage space is critical to their mission of providing for community members.

The construction of the warehouse building was financed District 4 City Councilwoman Nikki Leethrough American Rescue Plan Act.

Participants donated more than 345 pounds of food at the grand opening Monday morning.

“We are aware of the problem of food insecurity here on the east side of the city and in the Vail community. Often, food insecurity and poverty are hidden in areas where people don’t necessarily expect it,” Councilwoman Lee said. . “So, fortunately, thanks to the American Rescue Plan dollars that each chapter office has allocated to them, we are able to accept ideas from the community to fund the needs. “Our weekend meal planIt now serves nearly 550 children each week,” Tippett said.

Tippett says it’s a food bank. emergency food assistance program serves approximately 600 families per month.

“And those numbers are going up month after month and continue to go up post-COVID,” Tippett said.

Tippett adds that the ribbon cutting ceremony in front of the vault building was a celebration of the “Strength of Community” and it was only the efforts of the entire community that led to this day.

Vail Food Bank Resources will host more food drives before the holidays.

“Everyone goes through tough times from time to time, and there are chapters in our lives that are more difficult than others, and that’s why this place exists,” Councilwoman Lee said. “This place is ready to help.”
