Driver injured in crash involving pickup truck and trailer on US 60 in Apache Junction

APACHE JUNCTION, Arizona (AZFamily) — A portion of U.S. 60 was closed for several hours in the East Valley due to a crash with serious injuries early Monday morning.

The collision occurred just after 1 p.m. in the eastbound lanes. US 60 near Meridian Road. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a westbound pickup truck was pulling a trailer with jackknifed pipes, swinging the trailer across the median.

DPS said the trailer then collided with an eastbound vehicle, seriously injuring the driver.

Video from the AZFamily news helicopter showed the pickup truck, trailer and sedan suffering extensive damage.

Eastbound traffic was diverted onto Signal Butte Road until the lanes reopened around 4 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
