Community responds to attack at South Point Elementary School

SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WSAZ) – Community members rallied around Principal Bill Christian after he was stabbed on October 24th.

The attack at South Point Primary School has sent shockwaves through the community.

Christian was stabbed by his parents during the school day.

The school was closed for quarantine.

South Point Local Schools announced that district students will return to classrooms on November 6th.

Denise Schneider is still dealing with the fear she felt when she learned her child’s school was closed.

“It’s probably a parent’s worst nightmare when you get a call that your child’s school is closed,” Schneider said. “In most cases, what we know about a lockdown is an active shooter.”

She said that this fear is common to any parent.

“It’s very scary to think that this person was able to get into your child’s school, even though we all want to feel and hope that our children are protected there,” she said.

Community members rallied around Christian.

The South Point Storage sign featured an image in support of Christian.

Employees like Bridget Kipp said they were grateful.

“I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to Bill for taking care of our children and staff at South Point Elementary School,” Kipp said. “Also, I would like to continue to pray for his recovery as quickly as possible and return to school.”

Schneider echoed South Point Christian’s good wishes.

“We are all praying and hoping he makes a full recovery,” she said. “We know he’s going to be very traumatized, but we all care so much about him and we’re all here for him.”

Christian’s condition is stable.
