The Ballon d’Or is football’s highest individual award, but it doesn’t always end up in the hands of the undisputed best player in the world.

Awarded to the player considered the best in the world for his performances in the previous season. Unfortunately, it’s never as simple as we just made it out to be.

From the dominance of Ronaldo/Messi to other random winners, the undisputed “best in the world” doesn’t always win the trophy. Here are six players who, in our humble opinion, were somehow denied the opportunity to win the Ballon d’Or.
