The 12th Binulig Festival was presented by Agria, Dito Telecommunity, Liga ng mga Barangay, Kap Saling Cares. Major sponsors included Grab Philippines and McDonalds, while minor sponsors included Bibams Motor Parts Supply, Dalmar Real Estate Corporation, Davao Light and Power Company, Motortrade, Coquilla Law Office. Donors include Nature Spring Mineral Water, Lucedra’s Botique, Koncepto, Glamourosa, Ameling’s SeaFood and Grill and St. Joseph Cupertino Driving School. Under the leadership of the hardworking Mayor Jose E. Relampagos, Panaboans kicked off the festival with a motorcade that was joined by various national industry agencies, barangay officials, private and government agencies, establishments and cooperatives of the city.

This was immediately followed by a Thanksgiving Mass.

In conjunction with the opening of the festival, three other sites were also officially opened: the Binulig Food Park, the Binulig Tribal Village and the Binulig Agricultural Village located within the Panabo Gymnasium.

During the official opening, IP youth dancers presented their cultural dances, followed by a patikim of IP delicacies.

In his message during the official opening of the Binulig Festival at the Panabo Gymnasium, Mayor Relampagos said the annual festival is also specially celebrated to honor the farmers and fishermen of Panabo.

“Tagaan nato sila’g Honor kay dili lalim ilang gibuhat ug atong fishermen. Sila maoy naghatag nato’g kalan-onon matag-adlaw, gani bisan sa ilang kalisod, daghang mga pag-antus ang ilahang naaguman, na-sustain gihapon nila (Let’s give credit to the farmers and fishermen because what they do is extraordinary . They are the ones who provide us with daily food. In fact, even despite the difficulties, they continue to provide us with food),” Relampagos said.

He added that Panabo City does not neglect farmers and fishermen as it always looks for ways and takes various initiatives to help them, especially in their livelihoods.

The formal opening was immediately followed by Kasadya sa Binulig, an evening event on the first night of the festival, which featured Shamcey TV, Mrs. Wang and Chubs.

On the second day, job seekers gathered at the Panabo Gymnasium for the Binulig Trabajo, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNC) Job Fair, while others attended the Ginangang and Gwapiig Lechon Festival and Research Exhibition. Planting enthusiasts marveled at the bonsai and suiseki display as the Museo Panabo Ground hosted an exhibition of skillful and amazing bonsai trees. The purpose of the exhibition was to showcase the fine art of bonsai making and to allow the people of Panabo to learn additional techniques for growing bonsai trees.

While it was the Indigenous Peoples’ (IP) day to showcase their cuisine at Lutong Tribu, each tribe showcased their expertise in cooking and presented their cuisine showcasing their traditions and culture. These dishes are not only delicious, but also a symbol of their struggle and unity. In the afternoon, Panaboans will be able to witness the cultural dances of Bagobo and Sama on the first day of Pasundayag.

On the second night, Panaboans witnessed the Hiyas ng Binulig 2024 fashion show held at Agriya Naturetainment.

A skills competition was held in Panabo City on October 9, and the farmers’ livestock were showcased during the Fisheries and Livestock Farmers’ Day, where their carabaos showed off their strength and health in the Carabao Racing. The IPs showed off their sportsmanship at Larong Tribu and it was a moment for the Kagan and Manobo tribes on the second day of Pasundayag.

On the third night, Zumba enthusiasts in each barangay of Panabo City were given a platform to showcase their talent at the Zumba Inter-Barangay competition.

Meanwhile, on the fourth day, farmers were honored through Farmer’s Day and Abe Bau Day and traditional painting at 9 am.

On this day, the Mandaya tribe was introduced during the third Pasundayag; and among the most anticipated parts was the Sayaw Sa Kadalanan (Binulig na Ani Showdown Dance Competition and Binulig Drum and Lyre Competition), which was attended by several private and public primary and secondary schools in Panabo City.

Mayor Relampagos demonstrated his dedicated support not only to the participants but also to the Panaboans by personally witnessing and joining the event.

To give additional inspiration to the competing teams, the Mayor, through his son J.M. Relampagos, allocated an additional amount to increase the prizes, making a total grand prize of P100,000, second prize of P80,000, third prize of P60,000 and other prizes for special Awards: “Best Musicianship” – 5,000 pesos and “Best Costume” – 5,000 pesos.

The primary category of the Drum and Lyre competition had seven participants and the first place was won by none other than Dalisay Village Primary School. In the senior category, Panabo City National High School won the champion trophy.

Meanwhile, thanks to their amazing performance and lively rhythm, Panabo City National High School still won the first prize in the Binulig na Ani Showdown dance competition.

Other participating teams included: Rizal Elementary School; Gleserio Dondoy Central Primary School; Nanyo Central Primary School; Dalisay Village Primary School; Lorenzo Concepción Integrated School; San Vicente Elementary School; New Visayas Elementary School; Maryknoll College at Panabo, Inc.; Panabo City National High School; Sindaton National High School; National High School of San Vicente; and the Francisco Adlaon Training Institute.

On Friday, the city of Panabo presented the “101 Cardava Menus” to the public. The day also marked the culmination of the Buwan ng Tribu and the presentation of the Bianing ng Tribu, as well as the 2nd Jose E. Relampagos National Goldfish Exhibition.

On the sixth day, the first ever Binulig Half Marathon took place and was proudly presented by the Panabo City Administration. The historic moment captured the hearts of marathon enthusiasts and runners across the city.

The Tribal Village IP Display Launch and the Agro Village Agricultural Exhibition were held at the Panabo Gymnasium on the same day.

Meanwhile, the sixth night saw the coveted moment that many Panaboans have been waiting for, the 2024 Hiyas ng Binulig Coronation Night.

Ms. Elijah Isabel Cunanan’s winning answer won the judges’ hearts and scores.

“When I was young myself, I really wanted to integrate social media to promote our local farmers by highlighting our banana plantation with this campaign called “Panabo Banwang Pinalanga Ko” which simply means Panabo, my favorite town. I believe this campaign will highlight our local farmers and highlight evidence of their hard work for our city. And if we, the people of Panabo, continue to support this campaign, then we will be able to imagine what Panabo City has to offer, especially when it comes to our banana plantation,” reads part of Cunanan’s response.

Cunanan was joined by her royal court, Joyce Nicole Tagaro (1st runner-up) and Ghislaine Lorbert Mamak (2nd runner-up).

On the last day of the festival, October 12, there was an IP display presentation with Misa Pasalamat (Thanksgiving Mass), followed by Kasaulogan sa Binulig (Climax Program) and agro-trading and prize distribution.

The festival concluded with the high-profile Pagsadya sa Abundang Ani, a free concert for all Panaboans and visitors. It was presented by none other than Bandang Lapis and other local artists.
