King Charles’s trusted right-hand man, Lieutenant Colonel Johnny Thompson, has announced his engagement to PR chief Olivia Lewis, bringing a hint of royal romance to the headlines.

The couple shared their happy news with the world through an elegant announcement in Times: “The engagement has been announced between Lieutenant-Colonel Johnny Thompson, son of Mr and Mrs Alan Thompson of Morpeth, Northumberland, and Olivia Rose, daughter of Mr and Mrs Simon Lewis, OBE of Primrose Hill, London.”

Although they’ve mostly kept their relationship under wraps, Johnny and Olivia were previously spotted together in June on Trooping the Color.

Olivia, whose professional experience includes working with King Charles and Queen Camilla, is no stranger to the royal sphere.

She is the daughter of Simon Lewis, Queen Elizabeth II’s former communications director, who particularly managed media relations during the sensitive period following the death of Princess Diana.

The couple’s journey from secret acquaintance to official recognition highlights yet another close royal bond.

Johnny, dubbed the “hot stable boy” by the public in 2018, is back in the spotlight.

Originally given the playful nickname while serving as the late Queen Elizabeth’s bodyguard, Thompson became an instant viral sensation in September 2022 when he appeared alongside King Charles looking exceptionally dapper.

Social networks quickly filled with admiration. “Is there a Major Johnny account created?” one user joked, while another admired the spectacle, tweeting: “No one embraces tradition, pomp and ceremony like us.

How regal the King, Queen Consort and Prince of Wales looked this morning. And… oh look… there’s Major Johnny!”
