Strong winds ahead of Rain, Snow and Cold Alert Day

DENVER (KDVR) – Early sunshine brings afternoon clouds along the Front Range with strong winds while rain and snow showers continue in the higher elevations.

Wednesday will be Accurate Weather Alert Day due to a cool cloudy day with rain and snow showers.

Weather today: cloudy and windy

Denver will be sunny early, but clouds will increase in the afternoon as temperatures remain moderate, around 70 degrees.

Winds will increase Tuesday afternoon, allowing fire warnings to be issued across the Plains and Palmer Watershed.

Rain and snow showers occur across the high country, mostly in the early afternoon and at elevations above 8,500 feet. A winter weather advisory remains in effect through Wednesday afternoon, with more snow expected overnight Tuesday.

Weather tonight: cloudy and cool

At night the clouds continue to increase and there is light snow in the highlands. In Denver, minimum temperatures will drop to near freezing with lighter winds.

Looking ahead: severe frosts, possible rain/snow

On Wednesday it will be noticeably cooler: the temperature is about 40 degrees, cloudy, with possible rain and snowfall in the metro. As it has been warm, roads will be mostly wet with some slush possible on grassy surfaces.

Temperatures then dropped into the upper 20s Wednesday evening, bringing the first hard freeze of the season along the Front Range.

Sunshine will return for Halloween Thursday, but highs will be below average in the 50s.

Friday ends the work week with sunny skies and seasonal highs in the mid-60s.

Saturday will also be seasonal with highs in the low 60s and sunny skies.

Sunday ends the weekend with partly sunny skies and cooler temperatures in the upper 50s.

Monday will also see sun and clouds, late rain and temperatures around 50 degrees.
