Court documents detail what led to the shooting at the Arizona Mills mall; 3 arrested

TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — Three people, including a teenager, were arrested more than a month after the shooting began in the building. Arizona Mills Mall food court.

Tempe police say the 16-year-old suspect faces aggravated assault, criminal mischief and unlawful discharge of a firearm in the shooting.

Additionally, Gabriel Victor Garcia, 19, was arrested for aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, endangerment and wrongful termination.

Police also said 22-year-old Marvin Hooks was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit the alleged crime.

Court documents obtained by the Arizona family revealed that gunfire was found in the ceiling, wall, signs and columns of the food court, causing and spreading about $500 in damage. mass panic among shopping center visitors.

No injuries were reported.

The teen was identified as the pistol shooter and Garcia as the rifle shooter, police said.

According to police, the teenager admitted to being involved in the shooting. Arrest documents say the teen said he initially thought about fighting or pistol-whipping the victim, but decided to shoot instead.

He said the victims pointed guns at him as he walked through the mall and that they had shot him before but did not report it to police because it was a group of seven people.

Court documents say the teen said there was an ongoing feud between the victims that reportedly included shots fired at Hooks’ home earlier this year, which was confirmed in a Phoenix police report filed at the time.

In an interview with investigators, Hook initially said he didn’t know who fired the shots, but then said the shooters were the teenager and “Vic,” who police say is Garcia. However, Hook stated that he “was only there to buy a hat and ran when the shooting was suspected.”

Hook explained that he didn’t know their “enemies of his” were at the mall and was “expressing his anger about his mom’s house getting shot up.” Hook admitted he wanted revenge but knew he couldn’t because he was on probation, police said.

During the interview, Hook said he had already seen the victim while she was walking and “wanted to try and fight her” because they had shot up his house. But when the shooting happened, it stopped him from confronting him.

He then talked about the memories and said he was going to invite them to a fight, the documents say.

All three suspects were taken into custody.
