Netflix shares first look at gritty new Western American Primeval

Peter Berg and Taylor Kitsch have collaborated in the past on some great projects such as Friday night lights and feature film Lone Survivorand their latest, a gritty limited series about the 19th-century American West, is coming to Netflix soon.

American Primitive The six-episode dramatization of the brutal US western frontier will debut in January and will star Kitsch as “Isaac, a traumatized man trying to overcome his demons.” The series, directed by Berg, is set in 1857 and sounds like it will be a much darker and more violent version of something like Yellowstone. It’s important to note that this is also the second Netflix collaboration between Berg, Kitsch and showrunner Eric Newman (Griselda, Narcos, Observer), who previously worked together on the film “2023” painkiller.

In the new series, Netflix explains: “Up and down, pain is everywhere, and innocence and calm are losing the battle to hate and fear. The world is a dwindling minority, and very few have grace—even fewer know compassion. In these cruel lands there is no refuge, and only one goal matters: survival.

“American Primitive is a fictional dramatization and exploration of the violent clash of culture, religion and community as men and women fight and die to preserve or control this land.”

Westerns are loved American Primitiveas well as the recently released Australian series Territorywe are definitely experiencing something important streaming giant. As for the first, characters such as soldiers, settlers, bounty hunters and tribal warriors will be depicted. Sons of AnarchyKim Coates will portray Brigham Young, a leader of the Mormon church, and Betty Gilpin will play a woman named Sarah Rowell, whom Netflix describes as a mother seeking a guide across the border for herself and her son.
