Former champions Glenmuir High and Munro College are among four teams that can book their places in the quarter-finals of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football tournament when the round of 16 continues with five games on Wednesday.

Central and McGrath School are also looking to extend their best seasons in years and could also make progress today with a number of games still to be played.

Kemps Hill School just missed out on top spot with a 0-0 draw with Garvey Maceo School in a Zone 1 game at Foga Road yesterday.

A win would have seen Kemps Hill progress to the quarter-finals, but they dropped to second place after St Elizabeth Technical School (STETHS) beat Alphansus Davies School 6–1 to take the lead on goal difference, with both teams having four points and will meet in the deciding group on Saturday.

In another game played yesterday, Dinthill Technical bounced back from a 4-0 loss to Glenmuir to beat Happy Grove High 6-1 at Dinthill and move into a three-way tie with Glenmuir and Ocho Rios,” all with three points.

The defeats ended Alphansus Davies and Happy Grove’s chances of reaching the quarter-finals and became the first qualifiers for the first round of the Ben Francis Cup.

Justin McPherson led the STETS with a hat-trick, with goals from DeAndre Barnett, Kayim Lewis and Shemar Stewart as they extended their unbeaten run to seven games, dating back to the second leg of the first round and including the round of 16.

At Dinthill, Rodain Reid and Raheem Harris scored braces for the home side, while Omarion Small and Tyrese Gow also scored.

Today, Glenmuir, with four wins, host Ocho Rios in a Zone 3 upper zone match at May Pen, with the winner of that game booking their place in the final eight.

Both were impressive winners in the first set of the round of 16 on Saturday, with Ocho Rios crushing Happy Grove 5-0 in Portland and Glenmuir beating Dinthill 4-0 in a rematch of last year’s semi-final.

Munro, who recorded their first win over Cornwall College since 1981, will be full of confidence when they take on two-time defending champions Clarendon College at home in St Elizabeth Hills.

Clarendon, who have played at a lower level than in the last two seasons, scored to earn a draw with Frome Technical and could find even tougher opposition today.

Antwon Smith was rooting for Munroe, leads the team in scoring and is expected to be in the spotlight today.
