Five Chinese nationals rescued from alleged kidnapper in Manila

MANILA: Five Chinese nationals were rescued from an alleged kidnapper at a Manila condominium early Wednesday (Oct 30), the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said.

The NCRPO report identified the 23-year-old suspect as Qiu Tian, ​​who was detained during a police operation conducted between 3 and 5 a.m. on Sta. Monica Street in Ermita.

According to NCRPO, they received and responded to a complaint from one of the victims’ partners detailing how the five were reportedly detained against their will, physically assaulted and forced to work as part of an alleged fraudulent operation.

The victims are Peng Xiao, 31; Wang Saixia, 39 years old; Yang Longtao, 29 years old; Ning Guobin, 32 years old; and Kang Lei, 35, were found in a room on the 32nd floor of the apartment complex and “showed visible signs of distress and physical abuse.”

The victims and the suspect are currently in police custody and an investigation is ongoing.

According to police, further immigration verification is currently underway in coordination with the Bureau of Immigration. – Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
