Nigerian police serving in UK sacked after conviction in birthday party attack

The case was heard from October 21 to October 23, 2024, and the police provided a detailed statement regarding the incident.

The incident happened during the policeman’s 40th birthday celebrations at Goals sports bar in Bexleyheath, Kent, which was attended by around 70 people. Peopleincluding ERT C members from Bromley Police station.

PCs were among those present. Shola Balogun and another officer named John (not his real name), who had known each other well as work colleagues since June 2018.

According to John, who arrived at the party around 9:00 p.m., the evening began at approximately 11:30 p.m. As he walked up the stairs from the dance floor, he was confronted by Balogun, who allegedly grabbed John’s glasses from his face and threw them on the floor.

John claimed that he approached Balogun in a friendly manner, but was pushed in the throat by Balogun, who then allegedly bit John on the right side of his face during their conversation.

Balogun presented another version eventsstating that he accidentally knocked John’s glasses off by placing a flat cap on his head. He denied pushing John’s throat or biting him.

After months of investigation and hearings, the court found Balogung guilty of assault. This conviction led to his dismissal from the police force.
