‘Emilia Perez’ to Win Palm Springs International Film Award

“Emilia Perez” will receive the Vanguard Award at the Palm Springs International Film Awards.

The Avangard Prize is awarded for the collective work of actors and the director of a film on a specific project. This year’s “Emilia Perez” stars Carla Sofia Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez and Edgar Ramirez will be presented with awards along with the director Jacques Audiard.

“Emilia Perez is one of the greatest achievements of cinema this year,” said festival chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandy. “This powerful film from visionary director Jacques Audiard is led by outstanding performances from Carla Sofia Gascon, Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz and Edgar Ramirez. The film began its career at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize and its lead actresses shared the Best Actress prize. We are honored to recognize the director and cast Emilia Perez with the Avangard Prize for this achievement in filmmaking.”

The official synopsis for Netflix’s Emilia Perez reads: “This odyssey follows the journey of four remarkable women to Mexico, each searching for their own happiness. Menacing cartel leader Emilia (Gascon) recruits Rita (Saldaña), an underappreciated lawyer stuck in a dead-end job, to help fake her death so Emilia can finally live truly as her “true self” and undergo gender reassignment surgery. ”

Previous winners of the Avangard Prize include Green Book, “The Shape of Water”, “Belfast”, “Killers of the Flower Moon”, “La La Land”, “Little Miss Sunshine”, “Women” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7”.

The ceremony will take place on January 3, 2025 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The Palm Springs International Film Festival runs from January 2 to 13.
