A sailboat ran aground near the Sea Colony in Flagler County; the owner is unharmed

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) Marine Unit responded to a sailboat that ran aground near Marine Colony on Tuesday after a mechanical failure left the vessel relying solely on the power of the sail.

According to authorities, the boat’s engine failed, forcing the owner to navigate only with the help of sails. While the boat was too close to the shore, the wind died down and the current began to pull it towards the shore. When the wind increased, the sailboat accelerated towards the shore. In an attempt to stop the boat, the owner threw an anchor, which eventually became snagged.

However, the ship, caught in the surf, began to list and suffered serious damage, including the loss of its mast. Despite the damage, the owner remained unharmed.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officers responded to the scene and transported the owner to safety.
