Maryland Chronic Pain Specialist Dr. Kunal Sood has moved to Tik Tok to identify nutrient-rich fruits that we are not eating correctly.

Addressing his 2.3 million followers, Sood explained that while many of us peel and throw away the skins of fruits, they are not only edible, but also a goldmine of fiber and vitamins.

The fruit in question is the one most people peel: kiwi.

“By eating the peel, you increase fiber content by almost 50%, improving digestion and reducing bloating.”

Most Americans don’t eat enough fiber. Women are recommended to get 25 grams of fiber per day, and men 38 grams.

Research suggested that high dietary fiber intake may reduce the risk of developing several types of cancer, including cancer of the esophagus, stomach, colon and rectum.

Fiber is said to “feed” healthy gut bacteria.which experts suggest may reduce the risk of cancer.

The court continued: “Kiwi peel also contains three times more antioxidants than the fruit itself, which helps fight free radicals and reduce inflammation.”

Free radicals are chemically active substances that damage our cells. It is believed to promote the development of cancer. Antioxidants protect the body from the harmful effects of free radicals, strengthening cellular function and reducing oxidative stress.

Experts suggest get antioxidants from food sources, not supplements.

The court said kiwi skin is “rich in vitamins C and E, which support the immune system and improve skin health.”

In addition to fight against scurvy Vitamin C, while strengthening the immune system, is good for mental health. Last year, New Zealand scientists discovered that eating kiwi, rich in vitamin C can improve your mood in just four days.

recommended daily dose of vitamin C for adults is 90 milligrams for men and 75 milligrams for women. Pregnant and breastfeeding women, smokers, some cancer patients, and those taking certain medications may need more.

The good doctor notes that people with kidney stones should avoid kiwi peels due to their relatively high oxalate content.

Viewers, however, aren’t entirely convinced they want to eat skin, insisting that hair makes it a “sensory nightmare.”

“Fur makes me itchy and painful,” one commenter complained.

“Although it’s so bitter. I really tried,” grumbled another.

If the idea of eating the textured outer surface of a fruit with rough skin makes you uneasy, Sung advises choosing a variety of golden kiwi with a smoother skin.

Another healthy choice? Mix all the fruits into a smoothie.
