Colorado could have a memorable season in its final month.

Colorado could have a memorable season in its final month.

News and notes like 23rd ranked Colorado Buffaloes enjoy a well-deserved break before heading into the final four games of the regular season.

The schedule worked well for Coach Prime’s second team. Play five games, win four and take a break. Play three more, win two and another break. After eight games, like all college teams, the Buffs are experiencing their fair share of aches and pains. We know Heisman candidate Travis Hunter has taken a hit. It’s the same with another Colorado standout, defensive end Sheader Sanders.

The rest and recovery week comes at an ideal time before the Buffs close out the season with road games at Texas Tech and Kansas and Folsom Field matchups against Utah and Oklahoma State. Barring injury or sudden collapse, Colorado will be favored to win all four games.

Colorado Win over Cincinnati 34–23 improved Buffalo’s lead to 6–2, making the school bowl title eligible for Sanders for the first time. The Buffs are currently ranked fourth in the balanced Big 12 and are still in the game (with plenty of breaks to come their way) for a spot in the conference championship game, where a win means automatic birth of a 12-team team in its first season. playoffs Long-suffering CU fans, do you believe in miracles?

Watching the postgame reaction in the Buffs’ locker room following the win in Cincinnati brought back memories of the 1989 season, when the Buffs led the regular season standings before losing to Notre Dame for the national championship in the Orange Bowl. Why? Photos of Prime calling Buff superfan Peggy Kopp. The 99-year-old has been a fixture at CU football and basketball games for more than eight decades. Coppom’s twin sister, Betty Hoover, was always by her side until her passing in 2020.

History of Colorado Buffaloes Football Bowl Games Through the Decades

Sanders celebrated the victory with Copp and instructed the team to shout into the phone, “We love you, Peggy.” Sanders helped turn the former flight attendant into a national celebrity, including the first-ever zero deal for a fan. The 2024 Buffaloes play for each other, but they have a special place in their hearts for the one and only Copp.

Your correspondent has covered the twins in several Buffs reports over the years for CBS Colorado, long ago “The House of the Buffs.” Her grandson, Sean Coppom, became a good friend and helped organize an event called Coach Mac’s Celebration and Renovation. Does anyone remember? When John Embry was coach during the 2011-12 season, Coach Mac and yours truly co-hosted a weekly event for the Buff faithful.

We started at Pasta Jay’s, outgrew that space, moved into Gebhardt Motors, then into the old training bubble, and then ended with a huge event in front of thousands of people at the First Bank Center in Broomfield. Feast and Mending may have been the highlight of Embry’s career as Colorado struggled to just four wins under the former Buff and NFL tight end, now an assistant with the Dolphins.
Any mention of Feast and Fix would be incomplete without a shout out to Jay Elovsky, owner of Pasta Jay. The Buffs’ longtime food supplier paid for delicious food at every stop. Pasta, thank you for your unwavering dedication to CU Athletics.

After the win over the Bearcats, a message appeared on a huge scoreboard in south Folsom: “Peggy is going bowling!” Yes, she is, as are other diehard Buff fans who have endured a long drought of successful football at the foot of the Flatirons. The death of starting guard Sal Aunese inspired the 1989 team. Apparently, creating a special season for Coppom’s beloved is motivating Coach Prime’s team. Whatever it takes, just win, baby.

Texas Tech doesn’t have days off. The Red Raiders are ranked No. 11 and are undefeated in Iowa State. Third-year coach Joey McGuire has an interesting team. The Lubbock boys are the Big 12’s highest-scoring team, but they’re also the worst defensive team in terms of points allowed.

The buffs are running. Do it for Sal, Peggy, or yourself. Just keep believing in the miracle of many coming together as one. Shoulder to shoulder in what could be a season to remember.
