Two SSI checks for November may surprise some Social Security recipients

This November, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will notice an additional check thanks to a schedule adjustment made by the Social Security Administration. SSI benefits, which are typically paid monthly, will arrive twice in November as December payments will be paid earlier, on November 29, since December 1 is a Sunday.

SSI, a program to help low-income seniors and people with disabilities, is separate from Social Security retirement benefits and is funded by the U.S. Treasury. Qualifying recipients receive up to $943 per month, or $1,415 for couples. This payment feature, seen earlier in August, means there will be no December SSI checks.

Social Security beneficiaries receiving standard retirement benefits will see their funds distributed on the normal schedule. For additional assistance, recipients can check out SSA resources, and a simplified application process for new applicants will also launch in December.
