Nyanza regional police chief Patrick Tito said the suspect was tracked down to a hotel near Kisumu Polytechnic where he had checked in after escaping from Jema in Siaya County.

“During the confrontation, the suspect attempted to open fire on our officers, forcing them to respond with the necessary force,” Commander Tito said. “This was a dangerous criminal on the run, and our team acted to ensure public safety.”

During the operation, police recovered a pistol believed to be linked to other criminal incidents in the area.

What does the police chief promise?

Tito stressed that the operation is part of a wider initiative to combat rising crime in Kisumu.

“We are focused on restoring order and security. Criminals cannot move freely, posing a threat to the lives of innocent people. We will continue to pursue all suspects until justice is served,” he added.

The incident highlights the urgency of police efforts to combat violent crime in Kisumu, where recent incidents have caused heightened public concern.

Investigations are ongoing and authorities are working to dismantle criminal networks that may have contributed to Ayeko’s murder and other related cases.

First suspect in Ayeko’s death arrested in Nairobi

Previously, DCI detectives apprehended the first suspect. Victor Okot, on Monday, October 28, in Dandora, Phase IV, Nairobi.

Lambing is allegedly withdrew more than 100,000 Kenyan shillings from Ayeko’s mobile account, using these funds to rent a house and buy household items.

On Wednesday, October 30, Okoth was charged. Siaya Legal courts.
