Inconsistency, injuries and unavailability: factors that plagued DC last season in the IPL. While the batters had flashes of brilliance, a lack of consistency and shooting as a unit hurt them back. And now they’re looking to pull out all the stops as the franchise prepares for a complete overhaul.

DC retained only four players – Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs and Indian batter Abhishek Porel uncapped – and decided to let go of captain Rishabh Pant, for whom a bidding war can be expected in the upcoming mega IPL auction.

With a new coach and new director of cricket in Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao respectively, and GMR to oversee operations as part of a co-ownership deal with JSW, the Capitals are signaling a major turnaround in the upcoming season.

Most Expensive DC Player Retained: Axar Patel

Axar Patel has consistently proven his worth as a crafty all-rounder and is now also being seen as a potential option to become the next captain in case Pant leaves after the mega auction.

In the 2024 IPL season, Axar Patel produced impressive overall statistics, taking 11 wickets in 14 games and scoring 235 runs in 12 innings. He became the second player to score over 50 runs on his captaincy debut for DC after Shreyas Iyer.
