Former Seattle Mariners slugger comments on winning the World Series

The 2024 World Series champion has been officially announced.

The Los Angeles Dodgers came back from a five-run deficit entering the fifth inning to win 7-6 in Game 5 of the series against the New York Yankees on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium.

The Dodgers scored five runs in the fifth inning alone to tie the game. Former Seattle Mariners slugger and current Los Angeles outfielder Teoscar Hernandez hit a double with two RBIs to tie the game at 5-5.

Hernandez went 2-for-4 with his aforementioned double and two RBIs. He finished the 2024 playoffs with a .250 batting average, three home runs and 12 RBIs in 16 games played.

Hernandez signed a one-year, $23.5 million contract with Los Angeles this offseason. In just six months, he was named an All-Star, won the Home Run Derby championship and captured the World Series championship.

Hernandez also virtually guaranteed a long-term, expensive contract extension this offseason.

former Seattle The outfielder reflected on the World Series win in a postgame interview with Hazel May on Friday:

“It was amazing. We started the game down five-nil. As I always say, we never give up. And the delivery always went through. They gave us a chance the whole game. (New York) made some mistakes and we’ll take care of that.”

Wednesday marked Hernandez’s first World Series win as a starter on a winning team. But this is technically the second ring of Hernandez’s career.

Hernandez began 2017 with the eventual World Series champion Houston Astros. He won the World Series despite being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays on July 31, 2017.

Hernandez has previously spoken about appreciating the fact that he received the ring, but also said he didn’t feel like it belonged to him.

There is no doubt about whether the 2024 World Series ring belongs to Hernandez.

This is amazing. This is wonderful. Now a lot is happening through my body, through my mind. We put in a lot of effort as a group, as a player. We’ve been through a lot throughout the season to get to this point and win it all. Very grateful.”

Hernandez played one season for the Mariners in 2023. He became a free agent after his qualifying offer was not extended. He hit .258 with 26 home runs and 93 RBIs with Seattle.

Hernandez didn’t always have the kindest words about his time with the Mariners. From the hitting environment to the team chemistry, he has a lot to say about his short time in the Pacific Northwest.

However, Hernandez remains a fan favorite regardless of which team he plays for. And that appreciation extends beyond just the fans of the teams it caters to.

Hernandez’s fate in 2025 has yet to be determined. Los Angeles has five days to re-sign Hernandez before other teams get the opportunity.

No matter where he goes, Hernandez will remain a fan favorite. And he will bring new jewelry with him.
