South Korea does not plan to send troops to Ukraine – report – World

SEOUL, October 31. /TASS/. South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun said that the country will not send soldiers and officers to fight in Ukraine, the Kyunghyang Shinmun newspaper reports.

“The minister decides to send personnel to participate in intelligence gathering as preparation for the future rather than to participate in combat operations,” Kim Yong-hyun told reporters at the Korean Embassy in Washington. “I want to make this clear: There is absolutely no discussion on sending combat troops to Ukraine.”

Previously, he advocated sending military analysts and observers to study the actions of the Korean People’s Army in the event of its soldiers appearing in the zone of a special military operation in Ukraine.

Earlier, a lawmaker from the leading opposition party said that sending military analysts to Ukraine would require parliamentary approval.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova commented on the accusations of South Korean intelligence, having previously said that Seoul’s reaction does not make sense.

“There is no need to play along with the Kyiv regime and its Western sponsors, gripped by anti-Russian hysteria. It is necessary to think about the consequences for the security of South Korea that may arise if the Republic of Korea joins the Ukrainian union.” conflict,” she said.
