Kentucky transfers shine in final exhibition game

Kentucky transfers shine in final exhibition game

In Kentucky’s final game before the start of the regular season, several transfers performed well in a 98-67 win over Minnesota State. While Kentucky is typically monitored for impressive freshmen, this new era will be highlighted by productive seniors in their first season under coach Mark Pope. In this article, we’ll look at the Wildcats’ most impressive performances in the win and how these transfers could compete for positions in the draft.

Jackson Robinson's shooting impresses Kentucky

Jackson Robinson enters the season with the opportunity to establish himself as one of the best three-point shooters in all of college basketball. He finished the game with 24 points, six rebounds and three assists, shooting 8 of 12 from deep. Considering all of his points come from long range, it’s safe to assume his shooting will be the focal point of Kentucky’s offense this year. He moves very well without the ball and the variety of jump shots he takes is reminiscent of Buddy Hield. Robinson may not be on the same level as Hield, but his ability to hit shots despite tough losses is impressive and could translate well to the next level.

Otega Owe looks promising for Kentucky

Otega Owe is an explosive guard who works hard to make his shot felt on both ends of the floor. Finishing this final performance with 15 points, three rebounds, six assists and three steals, Owe was everywhere and did a great job of making quick decisions. His feel for the game looks much smoother than it did in his first few seasons at Oklahoma. He made 7 of 8 field goals, his only miss coming from deep. While three-point shots weren’t a factor in this game, he was able to make two in Kentucky’s previous matchup with Kentucky Wesleyan, so there is hope for the start of the season. Oueh has also shown improved play this season and this game showed that off as he dished out six assists from the field without committing a turnover. The athletic tools are there, but if his long-range shooting and play improve, he could quickly become a household name heading into the 2025 NBA Draft.

Brandon Garrison throws a monster dunk at the Kentucky State Exhibition

Brandon Garrison did not start this game for the Wildcats, but made his presence felt inside the team. With 12 points, four rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block, Garrison appears poised to take a leap after his freshman year at Oklahoma State. He plays an old-school game but has enough mobility to continue to improve as an all-around defender. Garrison impressed with his footwork and soft interior touch last season and looks poised to make a more consistent impact throughout the pre-season. In this match, he exploded with a powerful dunk over his opponent that highlighted his athleticism. His defensive instincts are strong, and as he continues to develop, it’s no surprise to see his effectiveness inside the game increase closer to the perimeter. His mobility looked much better in this showing and should make for an interesting storyline to follow throughout the season.

Andrew Carr impressed in preseason game for Kentucky

Andrew Carr may not be on the same level as the other NBA prospects discussed here, but he has impressed with his play throughout the preseason. In 17 minutes of play in this game, he added 14 points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot. He has a versatile attacking game, but at times struggles to make a consistent impact on the defensive end. His motor and willingness to compete has emerged ahead of the 2025 season and should help him fit into his role perfectly come season’s start. His post play and passing sense are underrated aspects of his game that should remain effective for the Wildcats. He will need to take on a larger role on the board as the year progresses, but he can create an opportunity for himself to reach the next level if he focuses on achieving success in the small things.
