Galaxy intends to complete first-round series against Colorado

Not long ago Galaxy win 5-0 on Saturday the opening of the Major League Soccer playoffs would likely be enough to win the home series.

In the current MLS environment, this first win is just that, a win without any advantage in aggregate goals for the Galaxy to carry into Friday’s second meeting against the Colorado Rapids.

“I miss those days,” Galaxy coach Greg Vanney said. “Each of these games is one game at a time. There has never been a truer statement in a playoff scenario, this is not a knockout (game).

“The first game you’ll win, that’s great, you’ll hang it on your belt, but it’ll be a whole new game, in a whole new environment, and both teams will look back at that last game and say, ‘Okay, what we liked, what we didn’t like,’ what are we expecting? And try to prepare our groups for what comes next. It only takes one result for them to come back to this thing.”

Each game in the best-of-three first round counts as a separate result. A Colorado win (either in regulation or in the shootout) will force the series to return to Dignity Health Sports Park for a winner-take-all third game on November 9th.

The Galaxy played a nearly perfect game in the first match, allowing only one shot.

“You have to play every game as it comes to you, and you have to play every game to solve the problems of the day and get the result at the end of the day,” Vanney said.

The Galaxy last visited Colorado on October 2 and left with victory with a score of 3-1This is the first event in Colorado since 2017.

“When we get there (Friday), we should expect a completely different team,” Vanney said. “Obviously we played in Colorado not too long ago. We’re expecting a more aggressive team, a more physical team, a team that’s going to try to disrupt us a lot more, so we’re just preparing for that.

“They’ll either press and press really hard or they’ll try to defend themselves a little bit and hurt us in the post, but I suspect it’ll be the former and they’ll be pretty strong.” hard and we’ll see if they can disrupt us, get something early and try to give this thing some momentum. But we just need to be prepared and meet the challenges that are presented to us and try to create our opportunities on the other side.”
