As FBI cuts another series, here’s what the new showrunner told us about wanting to “keep moving” in Season 7

FBI got down to business from the 7th season in TV schedule for 2024 this fall, and the first order for business was setting Tiff output after news broke over the summer that Katherine Renee Kane will not return like a regular series. Season seven has so far paid tribute to how much Tiff meant to Skula as her former partner, particularly as the search for her replacement continues. The actress who was cast as a series regular to replace her had already been cut before her debut, a move that reminded me of something showrunner Mike Weiss told me before the premiere.

New FBI regular series is out now

Lisette Olivera from National treasure: the edge of history (streaming now available from Disney+ subscription) was announced as FBInewest series regular in Season 7 on the same day that Katherine Renée Kane’s departure as Tiff was confirmed. At the time, it was reported that her character would be Sid, an agent from the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit who would leave her desk job to take up the job and become Scola’s partner.

Now, Deadline declares that Olivera will not stay here FBI eventually, and her character will instead move on after just a few episodes. The actress’ departure is reported to be due to how her character fit into the series rather than any issues with her performance. They say that at 25 years old, the actress may not have lived up to the status of an experienced special agent.

The actress’s completed episodes will still air, and Sid will be the focus of the next episode, which will air on November 12. In the episode, dubbed “The Doubter,” Sydney will turn to Isobel and the team for help tracking down a serial criminal. after her sister was the victim of an attempted kidnapping and sexual assault. It remains to be seen how many episodes Olivera will actually appear in as the search for a new permanent partner for Scola continues. For his part, John Boyd spoke about how hethe character wasn’t ready to lose Tiff when she left to start season 7.

What Mike Weiss Told Us About the FBI Takeover

There have been big changes behind the scenes. FBI Season 7, from Death and other details‘ veterinarian Mike Weiss become showrunner after Law and orderRick Eid has retired from the main position at the end of the 6th season. Weiss wrote the premiere himself, including references to such spy thrillers as The Bourne Identity while preparing Tiff’s departure. When I spoke with Mike Weiss, he noted that “it felt like I was here (on FBI) for years,” and then shared how he prepared to take on the super-successful CBS show, which has already run for six seasons and over 100 episodes, saying:

I think the hardest thing is going into a show that has obviously already told a lot of great stories and figuring out what new ideas and energies you’re going to bring. I’ve hired several new writers, people I enjoy working with and trust completely. TV scripts are a combination of you want to entertain the fans, but you have to entertain yourself first.

Keeping viewers entertained can be a challenge for a writing team if they can’t handle their own stories! New blood could be beneficial to the series as it goes on longer and longer, especially with a core cast of regular characters who have been around from the beginning. For FBIThis core includes Missy Peregrym, Zico Zaki, Alana de la Garza and Jeremy Sisto, with John Boyd joining the cast in season two. Mike Weiss continued:

It’s like on an airplane when you are told to put the oxygen mask on yourself first, and then on the children sitting next to you. If you don’t enjoy the story, the audience won’t enjoy it. It’s really a game we play in the writers’ room. What’s the coolest idea we can implement this week? And let’s just keep moving.

Trying to “keep going” seems to involve trying out a new character, like Lisette Olivera’s Sid, and then moving on when the choice doesn’t work. For now, fans can look forward to seeing Olivera in the episodes she films and continue to wonder what kind of partner it will take to replace Tiff for Scola.

FBI Taking a week-long hiatus this fall due to CBS’ coverage of the 2024 US election on November 5, but will return on Tuesday, November 12 at 8:00 pm ET with Lisette Olivera’s first major episode as Sid, which will be a short-lived series ordinary.
