Geoffrey Guan: The Australian golfer was left blind in one eye by a freak accident shortly after making his PGA Tour debut.

Guan is a two-time Australian Junior Amateur champion and follows in the footsteps of major winners Adam Scott, Jason Day and Cameron Smith by winning the title.

He then realized a lifelong dream by making his PGA Tour debut at the Procore Championship in California, playing alongside American Ryder Cup pair Wyndham Clarke and Max Homa and former English Masters champion Danny Willett.

A week later he was back in New South Wales, playing professionally at Catalina, where the unthinkable happened.

After hitting his second shot from the third fairway, Guan turned to his buggy to put the iron back in his bag.

“That’s when I was hit,” Guan said.

“I remember falling to the floor and feeling a throbbing pain on the left side of my head. I didn’t quite understand what it was.

“It was a huge area around the eye and cheekbone, and I later found out it was fractures around the eye.

“I don’t remember much about what happened after that. I just remember being taken to the hospital.”

In the intensive care unit, Guan was left alone with his thoughts every night.

The disappointment was “unbearable” as he tried to come to terms with what had happened and the prospect of potentially losing his career.
