Trump is trying to rewrite the history of his campaign against the ACA as Election Day approaches.

Donald Trump stumbled upon another mess he did so himself Wednesday night, telling a campaign rally that he intends to “protect” women “whether they like it or not.” It’s no surprise that Kamala Harris wasted no time in seizing on the former president’s comments, but the Democratic vice president did so in an interesting way.

Trump’s rhetoric, Harris explained, was “very offensive to women in terms of not understanding their agency, their power, their rights and their ability to make decisions about their lives, including their own bodies.” But as part of the same pushback, she linked the GOP nominee’s comments to a larger argument about health care.

“As I have said throughout this campaign, it is abundantly clear that among the stakes in this election will be whether we continue the Affordable Care Act or not.” Harris told reporters. “This has been part of Donald Trump’s agenda for a very long time. He made dozens of attempts to get rid of the Affordable Care Act.”

Apparently, the former president watched the Democrat’s press conference and felt the need to respond. Trump wrote via his social network:

“(Harris) is giving a press conference now saying I want to repeal the Affordable Care Act. I never mentioned it, never even thought about it.”

Gaslighting at this level is not only annoying, it is insulting. Trump’s approach to the debate is based on the idea that American voters have no memory, no access to search engines, and no critical thinking skills.

If the GOP candidate wants to claim that he intends to protect the integrity of the ACA during a possible second term, fine. I find such boasting very difficult to take seriously, but it is difficult to say with certainty what exactly he might do if he returned to power.

But the idea that he “never mentioned” repealing the Affordable Care Act and “never even thought about it” is so crazy that one can only assume Trump thinks voters are suckers.

Record not entirely ambiguous. As a candidate in 2016, the then-candidate repeatedly vowed to repeal and replace the law he called “Obamacare.” His campaign website made his goal clear: Trump wanted “complete cancellation» ASA.

Literally on the first day of his presidency, the Republican signed a decree read this in part“It is my administration’s policy to seek expeditious repeal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.”

In the weeks and months that followed, the then-president pushed the GOP majority on Capitol Hill to end the ACA. After House Republicans passed a bill doing just that, Trump held a festive event in the White House Rose Garden, where he told the audience that Obamacare was “dead.”

Months later, the repeal effort failed in the Senate, and Trump soon launched a years-long campaign against the late Sen. John McCain because the Arizona Republican helped derail the party’s campaign against the ACA.

Still, Trump spent the rest of his term disruption and sabotage effective health care reform legislation.

After leaving the White House, Trump continued to oppose the Affordable Care Act.

For example, just recently, at the end of last year, the Republican whined that some GOP senators failed to help him “kill” the ACA in 2017. “This has been a low point for the Republican Party, but we must never give up!” Trump added.

A month later the Republican posted a video to its social media platform, promising to “replace” the current healthcare system.

More recently, Trump stated that he “plan concept“which will replace the ACA, and at his last rally in Nevada, held hours after he denied his intentions, the former president said the Affordable Care Act”still stinks

Trump ‘didn’t even think about’ ending the ACA? Please.

As a result, some important questions are facing voters in the final days of the race: Are American families willing to vote for a presidential candidate who seeks to destroy the nation’s health care system and replace it with an alternative he doesn’t want to talk about?

If you’re worried about your family’s health, are you really willing to take serious risks based on vague assurances and obvious lies?

This post updates our corresponding earlier lighting.
