Forget about goblins, ghosts and ghouls: if you’re working in a campaign Vice President Kamala HarrisThe scariest sight in the run-up to Halloween was seeing her most senior surrogates take the microphone. As precious seconds tick away, the final week of the campaign has been marred by mistakes, missteps and failures – all from the people who were supposed to be helping the democratic effort.

Here are three examples.

First, when Harris gave her closing speech on unity, President Biden described half the country as garbage. You can’t fix this. Tucked away in the White House, just steps away from Harris’ choreographed Ellipse speech, Biden was—inexplicably—on a public Zoom call when he made a remark who took over the political debate: “The only trash I see are his (Trump) supporters.”

GARBAGE CAMPAIGN: WHY MISTAKES AND DISTRACTIONS CAN BE RESULTS

Why the 81-year-old, who was sidelined from the race due to widespread concerns about his age and abilities, spoke at the same time as the man vowed to replace him remains a mystery. By the end of the week, the White House had changed official transcript to quell the firestorm, but the damage had already been done.

The incident comes days after an Axios report headlined “Harris Biden with a Hard Hand” detailed Biden’s unsuccessful efforts to campaign for his running mate. Harris’ campaign’s response was “we’ll get back to you,” according to reports. Representing half the administration with approval ratings in the 30s, it’s not hard to see why.

Biden’s presence undermines Harris’s slogan of a “new way forward,” a message that was further muddied later in the week by a second surrogate failure: former President Bill Clinton telling rallies in Michigan that the economy was better under Trump.

They say a “gaffe” is when a politician tells the truth, and to be fair, Clinton’s argument is supported by polling data. According to the survey, seven out of ten voters have a negative view of the economy. Fox News poll. It is also by far the most important issue, with Trump holding a clear eight-point lead over Harris. However, this is an unhelpful comment for a candidate trying to discuss basic bread and butter issues.

MARK CUBAN TRYING TO ‘COOL UP’ AFTER COMMENT ON ‘OPINION’ WHICH IS WIDELY VIEWED AS AN INSULT TO WOMEN CONTAINING TRUMP

This was not the first mistake of the 42nd president. Earlier this month he appeared to criticize insecurity on the southern border, causing another viral moment and political headache for the Harris campaign. A once-in-a-generation political talent in his prime, Clinton, 78, is a shell of his former self. Eight years ago, when he was campaigning for his wife, it was clear that he had lost several miles per hour on his fastball. Now he has a hard time throwing the ball over the plate.

Bill Clinton advocates for Harris-Waltz

Former US President Bill Clinton speaks during a “Get Out the Vote” rally for Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris on the first day of early voting in North Carolina in Durham, North Carolina, October 17, 2024.

Finally, not to be outdone, there was Mark Cuban, a billionaire Harris supporter, who accused Trump of failing to surround himself with “strong, smart women.” The backlash was swift and severe, and Cuban was forced to apologize on social media early Friday morning.

Like Clinton, this was not the first time Cuban went against campaign messages. He (correctly) described the proposed Biden-Harris unrealized capital gains tax scheme as an “economy killer,” saying he flew into a rage when he learned of it.

Cuban’s presence on this trail is intended to convince voters that Harris is not wild-eyed California liberal her opponents portray her this way. Why would one of America’s most recognizable and successful entrepreneurs sign up to a campaign promoting socialist redistribution policies that demonize success? Instead, Cuban became history, wasting precious time as the race entered its final weekend.

As her party’s nominee, Kamala Harris faced the unenviable task of introducing herself to voters, presenting herself as an agent of change, breaking away from an unpopular incumbent and going toe-to-toe with one of the most dynamic political figures of our time – all within three months. . It will never be easy, even if everything goes well.

If Harris fails next week, there will be no shortage of accusations and accusations. The mistakes of its “supporters” will rank first on this list.
